Digital Globe launches foundation to foster geospatial education

The satellite company DigitalGlobe issued a press release on 11 October announcing the establishment of DigitalGlobe Foundation. This nonprofit organization is aimed at supporting the "growth of the next generation of geospatial technology professionals" by providing grants to individuals at military and civilian academic institutions that need access to imagery, information, expertise and tools in order to advance their research, develop their skills, and understand the unique potential of the geospatial industry and tradecraft.

"The Foundation was established on the belief that we have a unique opportunity to help educate students about the important uses of commercial satellite imagery, and geospatial analytics," said Mark Brender, Executive Director of the DigitalGlobe Foundation. "From space-based Earth observations comes knowledge and awareness, and from knowledge and awareness comes action to help solve the challenging problems facing humankind."
