Bolivia: Recommended Practice by Ukraine RSO used in International Charter activation

A Recommended Practice elaborated by UN-SPIDER's Regional Support Office in Ukraine, was used by to create maps in a recent activation of the International Charter: Space and Major Disasters for the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

The mechanism was triggered on 25 February 2015 after heavy floods started affecting the northern part of the country. The flooding had been caused by accumulating rainfall since January, causing the River Acre to overflow.

SAR-EDU: New web platform for radar remote sensing education

SAR-EDU, a new web platform for radar remote sensing education has been recently launched. SAR-EDU is a joint education initiave for Radar Remote Sensing, conducted and coordinated by Friedrich-Schiller University Jena and the German Aerospace Center DLR.

New Satellite Search and Rescue systems to be developed

The project will benefit Search and Rescue centres.

NASA and the governments of Cyprus, Brunei and Argentina have recently invested in the development of new Search and Rescue (SAR) network infrastructure solutions and next-generation Medium Earth Orbit Search and Rescue (MEOSAR) systems.

Colombia: Training Course on interpreting SAR Images for Land Cover Monitoring

The Research and Investigation Centre of Remote Sensing and Geographic Applications (CIAF), which is part of UN-SPIDER's Colombian Regional Support Office IGAC, together with the support of the brand company Telespazio Geos (Telespazio) developed a training course on the interpretation of SAR images for application monitoring systems as a strategy to drive the research process and to update the knowledge database of active sensors. The course will take place between 10 and 13 June 2014.

Japan: Preparing for launch of ALOS-2

ALOS-2 be capable of observing day and night

Japan's next generation Earth Observation satellite ALOS-2 will be launched from Yoshinobu Launch Complex at the Tanegashima Space Center on 24 May 2014. It will be carried by the H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 24.
