Earthquake in Mexico

Vertical displacement as a result of the earthquake.

An earthquake of 7.4 M occurred in southern Oaxaca State (Mexico) on 23 June as the result of reverse faulting on or near the plate boundary between the Cocos and North American plates. National authorities report that the number of fatalities has increased to 10. At least 5 people were injured, and damage was reported to 5,082 houses, 82 schools, 15 health centers, and 3 hospitals. The earthquake affected about 117 municipalities across Oaxaca, and damaged several public infrastructure, including 16 highway sections, 5 bridges, one wastewater treatment center.

National authorities continue to carry out damage assessment operations, while food and relief kits have been distributed to the affected population.
