The mission was conducted as part of the activities of the project entitled "Strengthening Early Warning Systems for Drought" (SEWS-D). The mission was used to discuss advances regarding the project, and to conduct the first meeting of the technical, inter-institutional team that UN-SPIDER suggested during its Technical Advisory Mission that was conducted in April 2014. The proposed team is being established by the General Directorate of Civil Protection of El Salvador.
The opprtunity was used to update members of the Civil Protection Directorate and of the Environmental Observatory of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources regarding updates in the Recommended Practices on the drought indices that have been developed by UN-SPIDER and to provide the updated maps of the SVi and the VCI.
On 9 and 10 July 2015, UN-SPIDER conducted an Expert Mission to El Salvador under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador as a follow-up to the Technical Advisory Mission (TAM) which was conducted in April 2014. The Expert Mission included several meetings with representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Environment and Natural Resources, Public Works, Public Health, and Interior.

The National Geographic and Land Registry Institute in El Salvador (ICGN) aims to develop the official maps folowing the territorial delimitation with neighboring countries, departments and municipalities in the country. In addition, the Institute develops cartographic maps that display geographic information including contours, water bodies and rivers, and demarcation of coastal areas.
IGCN is an agency of the National Records Center responsible for research and geographical studies including the development of cartographic and cadastral maps.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of El Salvador (Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería - MAG) governs all activities carried out by the State in regard to agriculture and livestock and with regard to fishing and aquaculture.
