The mission of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka is to ensure the availability of advanced and high quality communication technology services to all users at just, reasonable and affordable prices. This is to be achieved by working with all stakeholders in an independent, open and transparent manner to create a regulatory environment that promotes fairness, competition and investments, thus assuring the fulfillment of Sri Lanka’s long term communication needs.
Coastal regions are home to a large and growing population in Sri Lanka. The high concentration of population have produced many economic benefits from the coastal resources, in particular from fishing, tourism, and maritime activities, while having improved transportation links, developed industrial and urban centers, and modified physical nature in the coastal zone. Eventually the increasing beneficiaries cause for degrading the Natural Coastal Environment. Hence engineering and management of the coastal zones is vital for the sustainability of coastal resources.
The Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka is in charge of providing services pertaining to Meteorology, Aeronautical Meteorology, Ocean Meteorology, Hydro Meteorology, Agricultural Meteorology, Climatology and Astronomy to government agencies, the private sector and the general public.

DMS’s mission is to protect human life and property of the people and the environment of Sri Lanka from the consequence of disasters taking place in the national territory, by effectively dealing with them from a national perspective. DMC prepares the national policy and a plan and appoints centrally coordinated committees and institutions to give effect to such policy and plan.
The mission of the Ministry of Disaster Management of Sri Lanka is to facilitate harmony and the prosperity and dignity of human life through effective prevention and mitigation of natural and man-made disasters in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre (DMC) will release the latest hazard maps in December. This activity is carried out with the UNDP funding and implemented with the support of relevant technical agencies such as UN-SPIDER, which organizes a training program from the 14th till the 17th of August.
As a follow-up to a UN-SPIDER Technical Advisory Mission to Sri Lanka in October 2011, UN-SPIDER and the Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka are organizing a Capacity Building event from 14-17 August 2012. Supported by the Uwa-Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, the United Nations Development Programme Sri Lanka and the National Disaster Reduction Centre of China, the event will focus on space technology and its applications to hazard mapping.
