The 9th International Conference on Geoinformation for Disaster Management (Gi4DM) will be held between from 9 to 11 December 2013. Conference delegates and sponsors will foster the development of geospatial technology in the rapidly developing nation of Vietnam.
This is the first time that the Gi4DM will be organized in Vietnam, where a continuously stable and rapid socio-economic development in the recent years ensures and fosters applications of advanced sciences and technologies, including remote sensing and GIS. The remote sensing and modern survey technology together with advanced data analysis methodology become focal development trend in disaster management in Vietnam in the coming years. Especially, Vietnam has just implemented the program of launching the first optical Earth observation satellite called VNRedsat-1 which is the result of an initiative by the Vietnamese government to create a space infrastructure enabling the country to better monitor and study the effects of climate change, predict and take measures to prevent natural disasters, and optimize the management of its natural resources.
The theme of the conference is Earth Observation for Disaster Management and will therefore concentrate on the following topics:
- Small satellite programs
- Remote sensing and GIS as tools for disaster management
- Landslide monitoring and data processing
- Flood analysis
- Drought monitoring
- Forest fire control
- Urban Analysis
- Earthquake and geo
-hazards
- Coastal and ocean pollution
- Desertification and land degradation
