Joachim is an expert in earth observation and natural hazards risk

The UN-SPIDER team warmly welcomes our new colleague in the Bonn Office, Dr. Joachim Post. Joachim joined UN-SPIDER in September and he will be providing technical and scientific support to the Programme. He will mainly support the Bonn Office in its activities, including the further development of the UN-SPIDER Knowledge Portal, Technical Advisory Support, and the establishment of partnerships.

UN establishes Independent Expert Advisory Group on Data Revolution

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon named an Independent Expert Advisory Group

The United Nations' Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced on 29 August 2014 the establishment of an Independent Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development. He expects the group to provide him with inputs to shape “an ambitious and achievable vision” for a future development agenda beyond 2015 to succeed the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

UN-GGIM endorses Global Geodetic Reference Frame

From 6 to 8 August 2014 the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) met in New York. A draft resolution on the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF) was endorsed by the Committee and will now pass to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with the intent of referring the Resolution to the General Assembly later this year.

GIS Training Opportunity for Latin America Applicants

The Societal Impacts Committee of the GSDI Association will provide a free training opportunity for up to three candidates from Latin America to attend the ICLPST (International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training) training Seminar on Geographical Information Systems and Land Management in Taipei. The training seminar will begin on September 12, 2012 and conclude on September 25, 2012. Chinese Taipei is the sponsor of the training program that entrusts ICLPST to carry out the project.
