This course is particularly useful for those concerned with earthquake vulnerability reduction upon the development context. It is open to all countries. Participation by decision makers, elected and appointed national and local administrators, development and planning authorities, as well as officials in urban planning, housing, public works, and related sectors. is especially encouraged. The course is of certain benefits to private real estate land developers, personnel from emergency response agencies, and officials from UN, NGOs, and other international agencies working on disaster risk reduction and mitigation. The class size is limited to 25 persons. ADPC accepts the nomination on a “first come, first served” basis provided the applicant meets the course requirement.

Why the course?

Initiated in 2003, ADPC has conducted nine (9) successful EVRC courses providing training on earthquake reduction strategies, know-how for the development of organized approaches for earthquake vulnerability reduction, knowledge and skills for implementation of mitigation initiatives, appreciation of risk communication, analysis of the need to develop multi-sectoral partnerships for successful implementation of mitigation measures.

What will be learned?

By completing the course, the EVRC participants will learn how to: * Develop organized approaches for understanding earthquake risk and its impacts. * Measure the extent of earthquake vulnerability, and assess the capacity to response. * Formulate and apply appropriate strategies for comprehensive earthquake vulnerability and risk reduction. * Prepare for earthquake emergencies for efficient earthquake vulnerability reduction. * Integrate earthquake risk management strategies with recovery and rehabilitation plans and programs.

How will the learning take place?

Since participants will be coming from different countries and nationalities, opportunities for healthy discussion and learning exchange will be optimized. Subject matter experts will provide you with conceptual handles but will be delivered in an interactive and participatory manner. Scenario-based group work will be undertaken to effectively transfer theories to practice. The principles of adult learning will be applied throughout the course.

How much is the course?

Investment for the course is $ 2,900.00. The package is inclusive of hotel accommodation with complimentary buffet breakfast, morning and after afternoon snacks and buffet lunch for duration of the course.

Alternative course package of $ 2,075.00 can also be availed of. Cost covers lunch and two snacks for the course duration. You shall be covering your hotel accommodation but ADPC will gladly assist you in finding the suitable hotel that will meet your requirements.
