The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) is a decentralized public body (OPD), under the Ministry of the Environment, which is responsible for the detection of natural disasters of destructive magnitude (earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption, huayco, among others).
This OPD of the environmental sector plays a social role, helping to prevent and mitigate phenomena with great destructive potential: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, mudslides and droughts. In the same way, it contributes to a better use of physical resources. It also offers Peruvian universities and professionals the opportunity to conduct scientific research in the country of Peru.
