Under the auspices of the United Nations, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) established the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning System (ICG/PTWS) in 1968.
Its main activity is providing warning for Pacific basin teletsunamis and tsunamis.
