Global VSAT Forum (GVF), the international non-profit association of the satellite industry, collaborated with Pacific-Area militaries to conduct an international training to improve disaster preparedness. The program certified military personnel from more than 12 nations as installers of VSAT-based satellite communications systems. The Pacific militaries that participated in the training can not only leverage the capabilities of their GVF-Certified personnel during future disasters, but the stage is also set for further preparedness measures.
The training was the central feature of Satcom Endeavor, a multi-national workshop that took place last week at Changi Naval Base. It was organized by more than twenty militaries from the Pacific area in cooperation with Global VSAT Forum. The GVF VSAT Installer Certification Programme has now enrolled more than 6,000 trainees from all over the world.
"Military leadership in the Pacific, combined with the satellite industry's latest communications capabilities, are poised to more effectively respond in a region where most of the world's major natural disaster occur each year”, said David Hartshorn, Secretary General of the GVF.
