India: Developing a satellite-linked disaster warning system in Gujarat

The Indian state of Gujarat is planning a project to set up a satellite-linked disaster warning system along Gujarat's coastline to alert fishermen during adverse weather conditions. According to the statements made on 3 August 2003 by V Thiruppugazh, the executive director of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, the government is already working in the implementation of this project.

Thiruppugazh stated that this project would help the government coordinate with other agencies effectively during adverse weather conditions.
