The Colombian Geological Survey (previously INGEOMINAS) is attached to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which is part of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (SNCTI ). It performs basic and applied scientific research on the potential of subsoil resources, tracks and monitors geological events, manages subsoil information, and ensures the safe management of nuclear and radioactive materials in the country.
INGEOMINAS became the Colombian Geological Survey under Decree 4131 of 2011; changing the legal nature of the institute of public property to Scientific and Technical Institute, with legal, administrative, technical, financial and independent assets.
