The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) announced that nominations for the 2015 United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction now open. The theme of the annual award this year is "Shaping the Future".
Individuals, community groups, civil society organizations, government agencies at local or national level or private sector entities may be nominated for this award. The purpose of the theme “Shaping the Future” is to bring out cases of individuals or organizations that have shown convincing examples of leadership to make our lives more safe, healthy, wealthy and resilient now and in the years to come.
The winner will be announced on 17 March 2015 at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan.
