The GFZ carries out annual training courses on 'Seismology and Seismic Hazard Assessment'. These 4-weeks courses are part of the educational and training program of the GFZ Potsdam, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and UNESCO in the field of geosciences and disaster mitigation. They are a major German contribution to the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction ISDR.

Community leaders have the responsibility and opportunity to enhance their communities’ ability to prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from all forms of disasters. This course will help to enhance these individuals’ understanding of disasters, risk assessment in the context of disaster management, prevailing emergency management procedures and operations, and the different vulnerability factors that exist within their local communities.
This course is intended for traditional community leaders, religious organizations, the business community, civic groups, elected leaders, emergency managers, and first responders.

The second meeting of the global network of basins working on climate change adaptation, which is organized in the framework of the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) with the cooperation of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), will offer a platform for comparing methodologies and approaches, fostering exchange of experience and promoting a shared vision between the participating basins.
