NASA: GRACE-based Drought Maps for the American Southwest

Groundwater Percentile Map

Recent data by the U.S. National Drought Mitigation Center show that the Southwest of the US has been affected by droughts for 11 of the past 14 years and that in 2014 the worst levels of drought has been registered in California. From April 2014 until November 2014, the entire state of California was in some stage of drought: 79.69 percent of the territory was in extreme drought and 55.08 was classified with exceptional drought.

UNOOSA holds workshop on Space Applications for Socio-Economic Benefits

On 12 to 16 November 2012, UNOOSA organized the Workshop "Space Technology Applications for Socio-Economic Benefits" in Santiago de Chile, Chile. The Workshop was the third activity of the UN Progamme on Space Applications focusing exclusively on socio-economic benefits of space technology applications. In 2010 and 2011 two previous workshops were held in Turkey and Vietnam.

SPIDER Thematic Partnership LAC: Second Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in America

UN-SPIDER participated in the Second Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster-Risk Reduction of the Americas organized by the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), the Civil Protection System of the Government of Mexico, and other international partners. The event gathered more than 300 stakeholders from North, Central and South America and also from the Caribbean region.
