ISRO to support Indian state of Uttarakhand with satellite-based forecasting and monitoring

The Indian state of Uttarakhand has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Ahmedabad on 15 February. This understanding gives the Uttarakhand Disaster Mitigation & Management Centre (DMMC) access to the satellite imagery data produced by ISRO to put to use in forecasting potential issues for better disaster management and monitoring weather conditions.

Disaster Risk Communication training in Bangkok

Turkey: Launch of new satellite within five years

Ensar Gul, chairman of Turksat Satellite Communications, announced the production and launch of national satellites to occur within a five years time-frame.

“If you have experience, you can build a satellite within three years and launch it within another two years. That means Turkey will have its own satellite within five years,” Gul said.

Turkey has already sent three communication satellites in orbit and has built five satellites in total. Also, the country possesses an earth observation satellite and is currently developing its own space agency.

Romania: Plans for own communications satellite

Romania plans to launch its own communications satellite, as the website telecompaper reported.

The satellite is to be developed in the coming years and will ensure services for both the state as well as private companies, the minister for Communication and Informational Society Ministry Razvan Cotovelea said according to a local paper.
