TerraSAR-X satellite will continue providing data for Copernicus Data Warehouse

Airbus Defence and Space and ESA have signed an agreement that enables Copernicus Data Warehouse to continue receiving TerraSAR-X satellite information until the end of 2020. This space artifact offers data used for addressing emergency and security related issues, reliable monitoring needs, and land cover change with high reliability and accuracy to European public institutions.

Sentinel-5 to monitor atmospheric chemistry data from 2016

The Sentinel-5 Precursor will start its testing phase leaving from the UK, before its launch from Plesetsk, Russia in April 2016. The Sentinel-5 Precursor is using the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROMPOMI) and it has been developed by Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands for the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Netherlands Office.

Copernicus Emergency Management Service activated for forest fires in Spain

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated by the Spanish Civil Protection Authorities on July 9 after two different fires strongly affected the South of Spain since the beginning of July.

As explained in the Copernicus website, on July 5 a forest fire began in the municipality of Quesada in Jaén province and then spread to neighbouring municipalities. A second forest fire started on July 8 in the area of Lujar in Granada province. The fire reached other municipalities, including Rubite, Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Órgiva, and Motril.

ESA’s Sentinel 2A successfully launched and set in orbit

Sentinel 2A, the new satellite developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Airbus, was successfully launched from the European Spaceport in Kourou (French Guiana) on 23 June 2015 at 01:52 GMT. It separated from the stage into flight 54 minutes after the launch, its solar panel has already been deployed but it will only begin its missions in three or four months.

Agreement between Australia and Europe on Earth Observation research

An agreement has been signed between the Australian CSIRO research institute and the European Space Agency (ESA) which will allow Australia to get access to European satellite data, while ESA would benefit from Australia’s research expertise during joint projects on space technology and applications.

Sweden signs agreement to use Sentinel data

Sweden has signed an agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA) on the management and access to data provided by Sentinel satellites, called "Understanding for the Sentinel Collaborative Ground Segment Cooperation", which aims to facilitate Sentinel data exploitation in the Nordic country.

EUMETSAT to provide space data and support to Copernicus programme

EUMETSAT to provide space data and operational support to Copernicus programme

The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) will provide space data and operational support to Copernicus marine, atmosphere and climate change services. The agreement was signed between the European Union and EUMETSAT on 7 November 2014. Copernicus is a programme of the European Union to provide reliable, accurate and timely environmental information.
