New Latin America Geospatial Portal launched

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center's image of Latin America

On 15 January 2015, Geospatial Media and Communication announced the launch of its new Latin America Geospatial Portal, where users can access a wide variety of information related to geospatial products and issues.

The Portal is divided into five main sections: news, articles and case studies, interviews, magazine and conferences.

Viet Nam: UN-SPIDER Workshop on geospatial information concluded

From 10 to 15 November 2014, UN-SPIDER offered a workshop and a simulation exercise to about 100 participants from national institutions, NGOs, and international organizations in Viet Nam. The event was jointly organised with the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA). The Pacific Disaster Centre (PDC), UNDP Viet Nam, OCHA, DigitalGlobe and ESRI also offered considerable support to the workshop. The activity was following up on the Technical Advisory Mission to Vietnam in 2013.

UN-SPIDER participated in the 3rd High Level Forum of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). The forum took place in Beijing, China, from 22 to 24 October 2014 and focused on "Sustainable Development with Geospatial Information". The event was held in collaboration with the Government of China through its National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation (NASG).

The Africa Geospatial Forum, scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria on 19 and 20 August 2014, had to be postponed due to the Ebola outbreak in the region, as the organizers announced: "Considering the wellbeing of our participants, exhibitors and sponsors, Geospatial Media and Communications and Lagos State Government are re-scheduling Africa Geospatial Forum to 9 - 10 December, 2014 at the same venue, when organising such a gathering will yield maximum benefits for all stakeholders involved."
