The workshop brings together European players interested in and actively contributing to the Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS).
The aim is to look for synergies across projects, initiatives, to offer networking opportunities to the participants and to discuss how Europe can contribute to the international effort.
The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have teamed up to offer GEO member agencies and research organizations from developing countries access to cloud services. Selected organizations will receive AWS credits to host, process and analyze big data about the Earth to support sustainable development efforts.

OGC and GEO announce joint session on GEOSS in Asia: The Next 10 years November 13, 2014 - Join the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and invited speakers at a special joint session scheduled for December 1st, 1100-1800 (JST), in Tokyo, Japan. The session is intended to provide an overview and discussion on the state of the Group on Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS) and the role of OGC and other standards to enable greater interoperability in the context of Asia, with a particular focus on GEO plans for the next ten years.
On 9 May 2014 the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) announced the launch of GEO Appathon 2014.
GEO Appathon is a global competition held to challenge individual competitors and teams to develop new, exciting and easy to use mobile “apps” using Earth Observation data available on the GEO Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) to provide people with the information to make informed decisions about their environments. The U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) is offering $20,000.00 in prizes for this event.
Esri, one of the largest providers worldwide for Geographic Information System software, has recently announced its partnership with GEOSS. GEOSS, the Group on Earth Observation System of Systems, which includes over 140 governments and organizations, was established to monitor the entire face of the Earth in order to address issues such as disasters, health, energy, climate, agriculture, ecosystems, biodiversity, water and weather events.
"The Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems" (CSISS) is an interdisciplinary research centre chartered by the provost, and affiliated with the College of Science at George Mason University. CSISS currently operates the "Laboratory for Advanced Information Technology and Standards: (LAITS). CSISS is a member of the National Committee on Information Technology Standards Technical Committee L1, as well as the Open GIS Consortium (OGC).
The Canadian Space Agency, in close cooperation with the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), continues to be a major contributor to the Caribbean Satellite Disaster Pilot (CSDP), which is GEO (Group on Earth Observations) project (GEO task DI-01-C5_1). During the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season RADARSAT-2 has captured some 70 high-resolution images to-date for rapid damage assessments over areas affected by hurricanes and severe tropical storms.
The 3rd Ukrainian Conference GEO-UA will be held in Evpatoria (Crimea, Ukraine) on September 3-7, 2012.
