The Global Partnership Using Space-based Technology Applications for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP-STAR) has published a brochure compiled of factsheets pertaining to the use of Earth observation and space-based technology applications, for use in the achievement of specific Sendai Framework components. This innovative offering presents each factsheet in a unified format, with reference to area of action, example product, application field, methodology, key results, innovative impact, application status and background information, being provided.
The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2017 officially opened yesterday in Cancun, Mexico, following its launch on Monday. This highly regarded international forum dedicated to the disaster risk reduction agenda is expected to draw in over 5000 participants from across the globe, over the course of this week. It also marks the first opportunity for the international community to review global progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was adopted in Japan in 2015.
The Fourth Session of the Global Platform took place from 19 to 23 May 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland. Two of the main output documents are now available: The Chair's Summary and the Communiqué of the High-Level Dialogue.

The Fourth Session of the Global Platform “Invest Today for a Safer Tomorrow” comes at a time when there is unprecedented international momentum to reduce disaster risk and build resilience in our communities. Across the globe there is action to reduce the social, economic and environmental impacts of catastrophes brought on by natural hazards.
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) invites all disaster risk reduction stakeholders to participate in the Fourth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction "Invest Today for a Safer Tomorrow" that will be held in Geneva at the International Conference Center from Sunday 19 May to Thursday 23 May 2013.

The third session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is gearing up as planning begins in earnest. The 2009 session witnessed a dramatic increase in political will to manage disaster risk compared to the first session in 2007. Many tools and successful pilot projects exist. But the main challenge is to scale up these actions and systematically modify development programmes and budgeting to reduce the risk in all sectors.
