Seismic hazard database

Swiss Seismological Service (SED)

The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich is the federal agency responsible for monitoring earthquakes in Switzerland and its neighboring countries and for assessing Switzerland’s seismic hazard. When an earthquake happens, the SED informs the public, authorities, and the media about the earthquake’s location, magnitude, and possible consequences. The activities of the SED are integrated in the federal program for earthquake risk reduction.

Benguet to secure software on rapid earthquake damage assessment system

The provincial government of Benguet, Philippines, may soon have an accurate seismic hazard database as it is now working to secure a software program called REDAS or the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The program could produce seismic hazard and risk maps minutes after the occurrence of a potentially damaging earthquake.
