The functions of El Salvador's General Directorate for Civil Protection (Dirección General de Protección Civil, Prevención y Mitigación de Desastres - DGPC) are as follows:
- Develop the Plan of Civil Protection, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation
- Lead the implementation of plans for preparedness, emergency response and civil protection
- Lead the Emergency Operations Center, EOC
- Prepare and maintain warning systems
- Promote outreach and education on disaster prevention in schools, communities and municipalities
- Establish inter-agency and international relations to collect relevant information
