Mapping

The Geographic Institute of Burkina Faso is a Public Establishment Administrative in charge of the design, implementation and monitoring of national policy mapping. In July 1974, a meeting organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) was held in Cairo. Following this meeting it was recommended to the African countries to work towards the establishment of a base map scaled 1/50000. IGB works to achieve this goal and other purposes, such as the delimitation of its frontiers.

Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) is a European Union-led initiative for the implementation of information services dealing with environment and security. GMES is based on observation data received from Earth Observation satellites and ground based information. By securing the sustainability of an information infrastructure necessary to produce output information in the form of maps, datasets, reports or targeted alerts GMES helps people and organizations to take action, make appropriate policy decisions and decide on necessary investments.
