Algeria: International Conference On Climate Change Early October in Algiers

Algiers — International conference on climate change and the relevance of space tool will be held from 4 to 6 October in Algiers.

The meeting will mainly focus on the impact of climate change on economic activities and the natural environment in North Africa and the Sahel, the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), the event's organizer, has said.

The conference, to be held with the support of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), will be entitled "Climate Change: a Reality to be Considered in the Development Trajectories: Modelling, Space Tool and Adaptation."

The conference will bring together decision-makers and experts from North Africa and the Sahelo-Saharan region, space agencies, representatives of regional organizations, academic and research institutions and the civil society, according to an ASAL's statement.

The conference has three main goals.

The first goal is "taking stock of the climate change and its potential impacts in the Mediterranean region."

The second is "identifying ways and means to develop scientific knowledge of the region in the field of climate change, especially through the space tool."

The third goal is "sharing experiences and best practices in terms of adaptation and adopting local, national and regional strategies and identifying potential areas for regional cooperation

 

According to the organizers, the conference aims also at strengthening regional cooperation on the issue of climate change and the contribution of space technology in order to lead to the formulation of a platform of recommendations that will serve during international negotiations on climate change at the conference of Parties (COP21) to be held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015.

Decision-makers and experts from North Africa and the Sahelo-Saharan region, space agencies, representatives of regional organizations, academic and research institutions and the civil society.
