The International Symposion on Remote Sensing of Environment is convened biennially by the International Centre on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICRSE) and the International Committee on Remote Sensing of the Environment (ICORSE), a standing committee of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). The 2015 edition of the Symposium took place in Berlin, Germany, in 2015.
The 2017 symposium is hosted by the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) and coincides with the adoption of the African Space Policy and Strategy by the African Union Heads of State and Government in January 2016. The programme includes sessions on topics such as "Disaster Resilience and Geohazards" and "Data and Information Systems and Spatial Data Infrastructure".
