ESCAP is the regional development arm of the United Nations and serves as the economic and social development hub for the UN in Asia and the Pacific. Its mandate is to foster cooperation between its 53 Member States and 9 associate members for inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. To achieve this, ESCAP works through eight interrelated and complementary subprogrammes that reflect the priorities of member States: Macroeconomic policy and inclusive development; Trade and investment; Transport; Information and communications technology (ICT) and disaster risk reduction; Environment and development; Social development; Statistics; and Subregional activities for development.
