The Mexican Space Agency (AEM) is a decentralized agency of the Federal Government of Mexico, under the supervision of the Secretariat of Communication and Transport. It was officially created in 2010, whilst started operations in 2013. Its mission is to use science and space technology to meet the needs of the Mexican population and to promote innovation and the development of the space sector in Mexico, contributing to the peaceful use of outer space.
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) signed a Cooperation Agreement in Sept. 2016 to incorporate AEM as a Regional Support Office of the UN-SPIDER programme under the UNOOSA framework.
In recent years AEM has been supporting the UN-SPIDER programme through the provision of experts to conduct technical advisory missions to Central American countries. Currently, AEM is a partner to the SEWS-D project, and coordinates the activities between the parties involved, and provides support in managing the project. In 2017 AEM provided support to UN-SPIDER to develop a workshop and conferences at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in May in Cancun, Mexico.
AEM Is the national space agency of Mexico with the goal of transforming Mexico into a country with scientific and technological development activities that can compete at the international level through the development of industrialization programs and frontier‐technology services for social development impact. There is a group of experts working at the AEM in its four strategic areas: 1) International Affairs and Space Security; 2) Industrial Development; 3) Human Capital and; 4) Research and Science.
