Committee on Development Information, Science and Technology (CODIST.1)

Tue, 28 Apr 2009
Please find attached the announcement for the first meeting of the Committee on Development Information, Science and Technology (CODIST.1), planned for 28 April - 1 May 2009. The theme of CODIST.1 will be "Scientific Development, Innovation and the Knowledge Economy". We are currently working on the agenda and programme of work in consultation with our focal points in member States responsible for national activities in the various areas of development information, as well as with colleagues who have proven interests in these areas from Africa and abroad, so that we may accurately address the issues that are critical to our constituencies. It is in this context, and in view of your important work and interest in geoinformation activities on the continent, that we invite you to provide your inputs and to suggest major subjects that you would like to see tabled at the meeting. We have since standardized the geoinformation sub committee work into sessions on (i) Reports, (ii) Technical Issues, (iii) Policy Issues, (iv) New Trends, and (v) Special Topics. We are also looking for suggestions on the contributions of the geoinformation sub committee to the plenaries on the themes of (i) Enabling Environment for innovation (including Infrastructure / Infostructure, capacity building, etc..) and (ii) Innovation and Economic Growth (including Business / Market, socio-economic development, etc.). Your contribution and comments may be sent to any of the contact addresses specified in the attachment, preferably with a copy to me (ANonguierma [at] uneca.org). I would be very grateful if you could also circulate this announcement to other institutions, colleagues, and networks that are involved, one way or another, in activities related to the work of CODIST, and more specifically to the work of CODIST-Geo. Thanking you in advance for your attention and support. With kind regards. Andre Nonguierma
