Description:

EUROGEO 2021, the annual meeting and conference of the European Association of Geography will be held online on 22 and 23 April 2020. These two days will be dedicated to the contribution that the community of geographers can bring to global challenges by sharing knowledge about the important United Nations aim – the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2015, the United Nations approved these objectives, covering all possible social, economic and natural aspects, both in a global and local space. Most of them are related to geography and seek to promote a multidimensional model of development that can guarantee sustainability. The  identified priority is zero hunger, to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, with a conciliatory and cooperative attitude.

In this context, the European Copernicus programme and its family of satellites, the Sentinels, are playing a key role in providing geographical research with reliable, accurate, regular and free data to respond today to future issues and needs.

One of our experts will introduce the RUS Copernicus service, and the support provided with cloud-computing resources, open-source processing tools and software, as well as training activities. Two demonstrations given on 23 April at 9:00 and at 12:00 will concentrate on Deforestation and Flood mapping monitoring using Sentinel data. These demonstrations are open to the participants of the conference provided they register before 19 April.
