China Boosts Africa's Meteorological Capabilities with Fengyun Satellites

Ahead of the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, China has significantly enhanced meteorological cooperation with Africa through its Fengyun satellite program. Since 2018, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has provided essential weather data to 30 African nations, strengthening disaster response and forecasting capabilities across the continent.

Key developments include the installation of an FY-2H satellite receiving station in Mozambique and the widespread adoption of platforms like SWAP and Fengyun Earth. To date, 36 African users have accessed nearly 688 GB of satellite data, aiding in disaster prevention and mitigation.

Additionally, the "Emergency Support Mechanism" has been activated 11 times since 2018, offering critical data during major disasters. Educational exchanges under the "Belt and Road" initiative further deepen China-Africa meteorological collaboration, enhancing global disaster resilience. This growing partnership underscores China's commitment to supporting Africa's development and disaster management efforts.
