International Charter activated for Russian Federation flooding

Lake in Kachalinskaya, Volgogradskaya oblast Russia.

The International Charter Space and Major Disasters has been activated for flooding in the Volgogradskaya Oblast Region of the Russian Federation on 4 April, caused by vast amounts of melting snow causing river water levels to rise.

Local authorities requested the activation of the emergency response to evacuate over 359 residents from 31 inhabited areas and to provide relief.

The activation has been requested by The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of Russia. The Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities acts as project manager.
