The International Charter: Space and Major Disasters has been activated today, following the request from the National Institute for Disaster Prevention of South Korea. The reason for the activation is the heavy snowfall, that has been affecting areas in eastern parts of the country in the past days.
Mountain areas received 72 cm of snow on February 9. In coastal and urban areas the snow reached levels of 55 cm - disturbing infrastructure, public transport and isolating number of towns and villages. Schools are temporarily closed.
