UN-SPIDER Conference on Space Technology for Climate Change

The United Nations International Conference on Space-based Technologies for Disaster Management - "Risk Assessment in the Context of Global Climate Change" was successfully inaugurated on 7 November 2012 in Beijing, China. This Conference taking place from 7 to 9 November 2012 is co-organized by UNOOSA and the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC (MoCA), the National Space Administration (CNSA) of PRC, the Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) and with the support of Digital Globe. This is the second such conference organized in Beijing following the successful conference in 2011. The opening ceremony of the conference was hosted by Her Excellency Ms. Jiang Li, Vice Minister of MoCA, PRC; Ms. Mazlan Othman, Director of UNOOSA; Mr. Li Deren, Academician from Wuhan University in China and the representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CNSA and APSCO. The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Shirish Ravan, the Head of UN-SPIDER Beijing Office. Prior to the opening ceremony, Vice Minister Ms. Jiang Li and Ms. Mazlan Othman met to exchange ideas related to the support provided by the Chinese Government to the UN-SPIDER Beijing Office. The issues discussed included the long-term strategy and work plan of the UN-SPIDER Beijing Office. Both parties expressed their positive attitude on continuing close cooperation towards the development of the UN-SPIDER Beijing Office.
