As recognized in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, and by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, international cooperation is essential to contribute to the efforts carried out in developing countries to achieve sustainable development. Since its establishment, UN-SPIDER recognized the usefulness of international cooperation and has established its network of Regional Support Offices around the world to provide technical advisory support to developing countries in Asia, Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Through this international cooperation, national disaster management agencies and other stakeholders in developing countries are increasing their capacity to use space-based technologies to address the challenges posed by natural and technological hazards.
Today, 13 October 2021, UN-SPIDER and its 26 Regional Support Offices join the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in celebrating the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day. This year, we recognize that only together can we make true progress towards a safer and more resilient planet.
