The European Space Agency (ESA) is preparing an innovative Earth Observation (EO) scientific exploitation programme – referred as Earth Observation Open Science 2.0 - to maximize the scientific benefits of Earth Observation (EO) data by capitalizing on the digital revolution.

In this context, ESA is organizing a community consultation meeting in ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) on 12-14 Oct 2015 to explore to the new challenges and opportunities for EO research created by the rapid advances in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). This includes open tools and software, data-intensive science, virtual research environment, citizen science and crowdsourcing, advanced visualization, e-learning and education of the new generation of Data scientists.

The conference will present precursor activities in EO Open Science and Innovation and develop a Roadmap preparing for future ESA scientific exploitation activities.  The conference will be followed by a Hackathon on 15-16 Oct in ESRIN for interested developers.
