The European Space Agency (ESA) is organising a Φ-week event focusing on EO Open Science and FutureEO - to review the latest developments in Open Science trends and kick-start innovative activities of the recently created Φ-department looking at FutureEO, and its associated Φ-lab aiming to identify, support and scale bold EO ideas. The event will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN from 22 to 26 October 2018.
Come and hear about the latest trends in EO! The Φ-week will include a variety of events (e.g. inspiring talks, workshops, roundtables, startup pitch, hackathons) to connect multi-disciplinary communities - from EO researchers, data scientists, non-space corporates, tech leaders, entrepreneurs, up to startup and innovators - to (i) explore together how EO Open Science and innovation can benefit from the latest digital technologies and (ii) help shapeFutureEO missions and services.
The Φ-week aims to act as a kind of lighthouse for emerging innovation and the rapidly changing landscape of the EO science and technology arena. It will highlight some elements on how ESA will develop FutureEO Capabilities and how the Φ-lab plans to operate as a springboard for innovation by creating an environment where new ideas can be sand-boxed to seed new partnerships. It will also enable to explore new ways to advance EO Open Science practices and tools promoting interaction, collaborative research, sharing of resources, novel education mechanisms and innovative science communication approaches. The event will be designed to enable networking and generate new opportunities, but will also seed ideas for new ventures and applications by demonstrating how emerging technology can be harnessed to bring data applications to life in new ways and by brining emotions.
