Colombia´s Agustin Codazzi Geographic Institute launched (IGAC) its 9th Geomatic Week event on 13 June 2022 at the Maloka Interactive Museum in Bogota, Colombia. The event brings together experts, professionals, and students from Colombia and from other countries to address the use of geospatial information in four key areas: technologies and methodologies for multi-purpose cadaster, geographic information for the citizen, new trends in geospatial technologies, and capacity building and empowerment of societies to use of geospatial technologies. The 9th Semana Geomatica is held in a hybrid fashion from 13 to 17 June 2022 and is expected to attract nearly one thousand participants this time.
The President of Colombia, Mr. Ivan Duque, will use the event to present advances regarding the improvements to the national cadaster, which was one of the elements included in the Peace Accords and has been established as a key goal in the National Development Plan of Colombia. IGAC will use the event to launch its Cadaster Observatory.
As IGAC is one of the Regional Support Offices of UN-SPIDER, IGAC invited the programme to participate in this event and to make a presentation on the benefits of the use of space-based and geospatial technologies in disaster management efforts. UN-SPIDER will use the opportunity to meet with staff of IGAC and other government agencies including the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, the Geological Survey and researchers in several universities.
