In 1946, the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) was created in Atlanta, Georgia as part of the wartime agency; Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA). The main activity CDC concentrated on at the time was fighting malaria by killing mosquitoes. Nowadays, the CDC focuses its efforts on protecting health, and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease, injury, and disability (www.cdc.gov – 02.03.2010).
