The Global Early Warning System for Wildland Fires (Global EWS)

The fire danger indicators currently presented on the Global Early Warning System for Wildland Fires are components of the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index (FWI) System and are accessible through the website of the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC). The Global EWS provides 1-7 day forecasted FWI System data based on the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Global Forecast System.

It provides an opportunity to overlay the active fire locations detected by polar-orbiting satellites during the last 24 hours over the forecast maps. This enables fire managers and decision makers to assess the fire-weather development at locations where wildfires or land-use fires are currently burning. An additional option is provided by a link to a global FWI monthly forecast, which supports the Global EWS and is updated on each Sunday of the month.
