Foreword
This Training Module Handbook is developed in the framework of the project “Copernicus User Uptake in Africa via technical support in the field of Disaster Management and Disaster Risk Reduction” (Short forms: Sentinels-4-African-DRR; S4ADRR). The project is funded through the Framework Partnership Agreement on Copernicus User Uptake (FPCUP Action 2019-2-48) and performed by the German Space Agency at DLR, with the support of the Center for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces (ZFL) of the University of Bonn, Germany.

Since decades ago, astronomers and astrophysicists have been carrying out research to understand the dynamics of the Sun. The results of this research are allowing those experts in national meteorological offices and other solar/terrestrial observatories to implement the first elements of space weather early warning.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), along with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have recently released their 2023 European State of the Climate report (ESOTC 2023), which included a number of key findings in regards to the climatological conditions around Europe, including and overview of the extensive flooding and temperature conditions around the region.

To commemorate the milestone of 30 years of progress in radar altimetry, the European Space Agency, in collaboration with the French Space Agency (CNES), is organizing the 30-year anniversary symposium.
The Symposium, encompassing these events, will be held from Monday, September 2nd, to Saturday, September 7th, 2024, in Montpellier, France. Saturday will be devoted to training on Fully-Focused SAR processing and SWOT measurement principles and processing algorithms, covering inland water, oceanography, and the cryosphere.
